The 120th Rose Parade themed Hats Off To Entertainment, took place on Thursday, January 1, 2009 at 8:00 a.m. (PST) and featured our 2008 Nevada State Champions "McQueen High School Marching Band" along with other spirited marching bands from throughout the nation.

McQueen High School Marching Band was the first ever "Reno band" to perform at the Tournament of Roses Parade. They were one of only 11 High School bands (22 total bands) that  participated in the 2009 Tournament of Roses Parade. They also performed at Disneyland and a field show at Band Fest.

We would like to thank everyone who helped make this event possible!

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The father of McQueen High School’s band director, Rick Moffit, was the former marching band director at Michigan State University, The University of Houston and Purdue University. His Michigan State Band marched in the Tournament of Roses Parade in 1966.

His published “SoundPower” band arrangements sold over one million copies to schools around the world. His arrangement of the Star Spangled Banner is the number one seller in history. To honor his father, and in keeping with the theme of this year’s parade, “Hats Off To Entertainment,” the McQueen Band will play Bill Moffit’s arrangement of “That’s Entertainment.” They will also play John Philip Sousa’s march, “The Ancient and Honorable Artillery,” which includes the music - Auld Lang Syne, very fitting for a New Year’s Parade. The Lancer Band will honor a previous grand marshal, the composer Mr. John Williams, by playing his composition, March from the Raiders of the Lost Arc.
